Piron increases budget for scholarships to needy students

An additional NIS 50 million will be added to the budget dedicated to scholarships for needy students for the next school year, Minister of Education Shay Piron announced on Thursday.
The decision means that the ministry will fully fund annual school trips and cultural activities as well as provide assistance in purchasing school supplies for some students.
"There are more and more people below the poverty line,” Piron said in a statement, “This is a social and moral warning, not just an economic one.”
“As a society, we must not ignore the issue and move on,” he continued, “It is imperative that we feel their pain, their difficulty and distress.”
Following the decision, the scholarship budget is expected to double.
