PM to give Hebrew language prize to noted translator

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will on Tuesday grant a newly minted prize to promote and preserve the Hebrew language to translator and editor Amazia Porat.
The prize, the Eliezer Ben Yehuda Prime Ministerial Prize, was established last January by a cabinet decision that set up an annual four day conference devoted to the study and promulgation of Hebrew.  Porat will receive the prize at the conference, to be held in Rishon LeZion.
Porat is receiving the NIS 70,000 prize, according to a statement put out by the Prime Minister's Office, for his life work in editing and translating, and in training generations of Hebrew language editors and translators.  Porat has been a member of the Hebrew language Academy for 40 years.
