Police finalize security measures for Jerusalem Purim celebrations

Several thousand police officers from multiple units will be actively patrolling the capital throughout the Purim festivities which begin in Jerusalem on Sunday night, to ensure revelers remain safe until celebrations conclude on Monday evening.
According to police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, all public areas will be closely canvassed.
“There will be heightened security in and around the different public areas of the city where gatherings and events for the festival are taking place,” he said on Sunday. “Multiple police units, including Border Police and undercover units, will ensure that fast responses are carried out if any incidents take place, with an extra emphasis on people traveling to and from the different areas of the city for celebrations.”
Rosenfeld noted that no threats have been received, adding that heightened security will remain in effect until the festival concludes Monday night.
“Everything as of now is going according to plan, and police will be on hand to immediately respond to any disturbances throughout the capital tonight and tomorrow,” he said.
“Patrols will also be heightened in Judea and Samaria and throughout Palestinian areas as part of standard security measures for this time of year,” Rosenfeld added.
