Project managers fined NIS 20,000 each for damaging plants

The Ramla Magistrate’s Court has fined two project managers NIS 20,000 each for damaging thousands of purple irises, a protected species.
The damage occurred at the Gush Dan sewage treatment plant in Rishon LeZion in August 2009, which is adjacent to a large concentration of the purple iris plants. While constructing a drainage pond for the facility, the workers injured thousands of the plants, prompting the Israel Nature and Parks Authority to file a complaint against those involved.
In addition to their NIS 20,000 fines, which are to be paid in 10 monthly installments beginning on March 5, the project managers have had to sign pledges that they will not make similar offenses in the next three years.
