The Jerusalem District Court announced on Thursday that it has accepted the prosecution’s request for a two month delay in opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s trial due to “personal reasons” of key witness Ilan Yeshua, the former CEO of Walla.
The corruption trial was scheduled to reconvene for trial testimony next Monday. It is now set to restart on September 13, after the court’s summer recess, which begins next week and ends September 1.
It was the fourth time the trial was postponed. The trial has been frozen since June 16.
The court’s decision means that the case will not really go back into full gear until October, because many of the September hearings will be canceled due to the Jewish holidays – though there may be a few hearings.
The additional weeks of delay are the product of a disagreement between the prosecution and the defense about how to handle new documents which will be added into the trial from the cellphone of Yeshua.
