Protesting Greek firefighters clash with police

ATHENS, Greece — Riot police in Greece have used tear gas and flash grenades to disperse firefighters protesting outside parliament amid the financial crisis in the country.

Thursday's clashes marked the latest protest staged by public servants on short-term contracts who now face redundancy as the government struggles to slash spending and improve the country's finances.

Last month Culture Ministry contract workers clashed with riot police after blocking the entrance to the Acropolis.

Firefighters have been camped out in tents on Athens' main Syntagma Square, opposite parliament, for more than a week.
