Rabbi Stav: Scheming defeated "spirit of nation" in rabbinate race

Political scheming defeated the spirit of the nation Rabbi David Stav told Army Radio on Thursday in reaction to his defeat in Wednesday's Chief Rabbinate race.
Stav was a Zionist religious candidate for the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi position who lost the race to the haredi candidate Rabbi David Lau.
The haredi candidate Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, the son of Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef won the Sephardi chief race. Stav told Army Radio on Thursday that "political forces" acted to secure Yosef's election, "inorder to ensure the continuation of the family's Kashruth certification scheme."
