Rahat girl, 16, killed in hit-and-run

Rula al-Huzeil was rushed to Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba in critical condition

A 16-year-old girl died on Thursday after falling victim to a hit-and-run in the Negev town of Rahat.
The girl, Rula Suleaman al-Huzeil, was returning home from school. As she stepped onto the pedestrian crossing on Rahat’s main thoroughfare, a Toyota hurled toward her. The driver collided into the girl, slammed on the brakes, and then abandoned his vehicle.
Al-Huzeil was rushed to Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba in critical condition. Doctors were unable to resuscitate her, and she was pronounced dead moments after arriving to hospital.
“It is inconceivable for young people to drive so wildly within the city limits and to take the lives of our children who obey the law and cross the street in the designated pedestrian crossings,” said al-Huzeil’s uncle, Hassan al-Huzeil. “These drivers deserve the death penalty.”
The collision took place in front of al-Huzeil’s high school, where her father serves as the principal.
