Report: Egyptians think Al-Nour support boosts Aboul Fotouh

Egyptian Islamist presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fatouh is more likely to succeed in upcoming elections at the end of May after he received backing from the conservative Islamist political party Al-Nour, a majority of Egyptians said according to a poll conducted by Egyptian newspaper Al Youm As-Sabaa.

Aboul Fatouh received over the weekend the support of Al-Nour, an Alexandria-based powerful political force which won nearly a quarter of seats in Egypt's newly elected parliament, after another popular Islamist candidate, Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, was disqualified earlier this month by the Presidential Election Council due to his mother's American citizenship.
According to the poll, 55 percent of Egyptians agreed with the statement "Do you estimate that Doctor Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh is closer to the presidential chair after the announcement of Al-Nour's support for him?"
43.5% disagreed with the statement, and around 1% were undecided.
