Seven children saved by organ transplants in two days over weekend

Within 48 hours over the weekend, seven children received the gift of life in a marathon of organ transplants at Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikva. This was before the transplant operations of organs from murder victim Shira Banki being carried out in several hospitals (but not yet announced in detail) on Monday.

One heart-lung operation, two liver transplants and four kidney transplants were performed one after the other. A 14-year-old boy who suffered from a chronic lung disease waited for his operation for some time, and this week, he was told that a heart and lung were available.

A six-year old boy and a nine-year-old boy who had liver insufficiency had their operation, while four-year-old and  nine-year-old girls and two 16-year-old boys received kidneys at the Petah Tikva children’s hospital, which has performed over 500 transplants.
