Shas, Finance C'mtee to inject 1 billion shekel to housing

Shas Minister Ariel Attias and the Finance Committee reached an agreement on Tuesday to purchase new dwellings devoted to public housing, as well to implement a 750 million shekel injection to accelerate construction.

A budget of over a billion NIS will be dedicated to public housing and to speed up construction of new housing projects for young couples, according to a new agreement between Attias and the Ministry of Finance.

Referring to the agreement with the Ministry, Attias commented: "Deep cuts were expected to hit public housing and rental assistance, which are crucial tools to assist the weakest members of our society. Therefore we resisted the proposed cuts...our new agreement will encourage growth and employment."
