Spain has frozen euro37 million ($47 million) in illegally obtained funds accrued by Hussein Salem, an associate of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and also a wanted man in Egypt, the Associated Press reported Friday. Salem, 77, his son, and an associated described as a frontman were arrested Thursday in a wealthy Madrid suburb. Salem allegedly sent the illicit funds to Spain from Egypt, Spanish National Police said. Homes worth euro10 million ($14 million) were also seized by the Spanish authorities.
