State comptroller decides not to probe Dankner case

State comptroller wont

State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss said Sunday he will not conduct an investigation into the Bank of Israel's order to Bank Hapoalim to replace Danny Dankner as chairman. In May, Bank Hapoalim controlling shareholder Shari Arison complained about the bank's insistence that she fire Dankner. Lindenstrauss met with Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer and Supervisor of Banks Rony Hizkiyahu in September to discuss the complaint. On Sunday, Lindenstrauss wrote, "there is no need for further investigation of the matter." Among other things, he noted that Fischer had explained in broad terms to Arison and Dankner why he had insisted that Dankner leave his post.
