Steinitz meets visiting Greek FM after bailout referendum voted down

Energy and Water Minister Yuval Stenitz (Likud) met with visiting Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias Monday and expressed his desire to see a quick resolution to Greece's current economic situation.

The Greek foreign minister's visit came after Sunday's referendum in which the Greek public voted to back the government in rejecting the euro zone's austerity terms of a bailout.

Steinitz and Kotzias discussed regional issues as well as ongoing mutual cooperation between the two countries and Cyprus in the energy sector and the need to create a gas pipeline between the three nations with the hopes of assisting the Greek economy.

The Greek foreign minister thanked Steinitz for Israel's continued friendship.
