Thousands of runners expected for capital’s 2nd annual Jerusalem Night Run

The annual Jerusalem Night Run, a 10 kilometer foot race through the Old City and other historic sites of the capital, is expected to draw thousands of amateur and professional runners at the capitals’ First Train Station Tuesday night.

The event, now in its second year, is considered a prelude to the 4th annual International Jerusalem Marathon, scheduled for March 21. Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, an avid jogger who regularly participates in both events, described the Night Run as “breathtaking.”

“The Jerusalem Night Race runners will experience a breathtaking run featuring the magical atmosphere of the city and the Old City at night,” he said. “The Night Race has become a tradition at the foot of the city walls and is considered a warm-up for the Jerusalem Marathon.”

The route will begin at the First Train Station and take runners past the Old City walls, the Tower of David, Jaffa Gate, Mamilla, down Emek Refaim Street, to Liberty Bell Park and back to the train station.

Over 2,500 runners are expected for the 9 p.m. race, which will also include a pre-event celebration starting at 4 p.m. featuring a DJ and numerous activities for all participants.
