US to Israel: Don't announcing new settlement construction after next Palestinian prisoner release

The United States has urged Israel to refrain from announcing further settlement construction directly following the expected release of a third batch of Palestinian prisoners later in December, Israel Radio reported.

A diplomatic source told the radio station that the building announcements made to appease the Israeli public over the releases were "sore points" for the Palestinians.

Sources in Jerusalem said Wednesday night that Israel will continue activities in accordance with government agreements and continue construction in the settlements, according to the report.
