Water consumption drops 7.5% in first 6 months of 2011

Israel’s water consumption decreased by 7.5 percent during the first half of 2011, when compared to the amount of water consumed during the same period last year, data released by the Mekorot National Water Company at the end of last week indicated.

“Despite the drop in water consumption, Mekorot claims that the water crisis is still not behind us,” a spokeswoman for the group said in a statement. “The company welcomes the continuation of the trend in saving and sees itself as committed to handling the water market crisis for future generations.”
