Whooping cough in Soroka nurse leads to taking precautionary action

After a nurse in the Obstetrics D department at Beersheba’s Soroka University Medical Center was found to have contracted and recovered from whooping cough, it was decided by the hospital and the Health Ministry to take precautions.
Parents of all babies born there between April 10 and 22 -- about 150 --  will be asked to bring them in for prophylactic treatment. They will be given oral antibiotics, and the parents will hear explanations on how the risk of infection is very low, but that precautions should be taken because their immune systems are not yet strong. . No infant has shown symptoms of the bacterial disease.
