Leon Charney wingThe Diaspora Museum recently held its annual gala in New York, where they lauded the opening of the new Leon Charney wing, based on a $1 million contribution from the Charney Foundation.The evening was held at 583 Park Avenue, a magnificent New York event venue, in memory of Charney, who passed away in March. Attending the event were his widow, Tzili Doron; Irina Nevzlin, chair of the board of the museum; Dan Tadmor, director of the museum; Eitan Ben-Eliahu, co-chairman of the Board of Trustees; Shula Bahat, chairman of the Friends of the Diaspora in America; Daniel Pincus; president of the Friends of the Museum in America; Senator Joseph Lieberman; and Steve Forbes – honorary chairman of the Board of Trustees.2. Gesher TheaterThe Gesher Theater recently held its annual gala event at the home of Israel Makov in Karmei Yosef. Makov is the chairman of the theater and he and his wife Bella Lustig welcomed guests to the event. A special one-off performance that dealt with love was shown during the evening and there to enjoy it were: Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, Director of Friends of the theater; chairman of the theater Eli Zohar and his wife Nili; artistic director Yevgeny Aryeh; CEO of the theater Lena Kreindlin; and Tzipi and Erez Vigodman.3. Cocktails held in the museum’s garden were hosted by Tel Aviv-Jaffa Mayor Ron Huldai; director and chief curator of the museum, Suzanne Landau; temporary chairman of the museum, Chaim Samet; chairperson of the Friends of the Museum in Israel, Irit Rappaport; and head of public relations Dina Papo, who worked hard to make the evening a success. Attending the gala were Assaf Tuchmeier and Barak Rosen, owners of Canada-Israel, which sponsored the evening; Benny Steinmetz, who was accompanied by his daughter, Ruth Rappaport; Naomi and David Kolitz; and Moshe Peterburg.4. Holon Institute of TechnologyPini Cohen, who began his illustrious career as an engineering student at Holon Institute of Technology (HIT), is currently chairman of the board of HIT.He recently came full circle when he participated together with the HIT president Prof. Eduard Yakubov in an event to launch groundbreaking projects. The NIS 180,000 contribution from Dr. Pninit and Pini Cohen is earmarked for innovation among students, alumni and faculty.Attending the event were HIT president Prof. Eduard Yakubov, Samuel Goldberg, CEO of the Institute of Technology, and Dr. Rafi Barkan, head of the Research and Development Authority.5. Chaim KatzmanClalit Health Services hosted a groundbreaking event for its new cancer treatment center – Beit Shulamit (House of Shulamit) at Emek Medical Center in Afula. The event was attended by Chaim Katzman, the founder, controlling shareholder and chairman of Gazit-Globe; his two daughters, Bat Ami and Evrona; Prof.Orna Blonheim – the head of Emek Medical Center in Afula; former IDF chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi; Galia Maor; and Zahavit Cohen as well as other Clalit officials and Emek Medical Center doctors.Katzman donated $25 million in order to commemorate the legacy of his wife Shulamit, who passed away from cancer, by constructing a one-of-a-kind treatment center for cancer patients in the north of Israel.
