Minister of Transportation and Road Safety Shaul Mofaz on Wednesday convened the first meeting of the "Commission to Investigate Safety Standards at Israel's Airports" with the hope that the members of the committee will help Israel's airports become safer places.
The commission was initiated by Mofaz in response to a near-collision between loaded El Al and Iberia passenger planes in February. Amos Lapidot, former General in the Israeli Air Force, has been tabbed by Mofaz to chair the commission, and will be joined by civilian experts in the field of airport safety and security.
