Tech Watch: 3GSM World Congress proves busy for Israeli telecom

Ra'anana-based Amdocs has successfully implemented its self service software at Romanian telephony company Romtelecom.

Ra'anana-based Amdocs, said Monday it has successfully implemented its self service software at Romanian telephony company Romtelecom. The deal is said to be worth "tens of millions" of dollars. Amdocs Self Service is helping Romtelecom comply with market deregulation requirements and handle its relationships with more than 10 Other Licensed Operators delivering voice and data services over its network connecting the end user's premises to the local Romtelecom switch. Separately, Amdocs released at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, its global Customer Experience Survey, revealing that both consumers and businesses say they are more likely to stick with a telecom provider based on the quality of the customer experience rather than on the cost of its service. Rosh Ha'ayin-based Lipman Electronic Engineering Ltd. has received a follow-on order valued at $3.2 million from one of Mexico's largest banks. The order, for Lipman's Dione Secura PIN Entry Device, follows the bank's order of Secura units in the fourth quarter of 2005. Product shipments have begun and the order is expected to be supplied in full during the first half of this year. Agere Systems has selected security solutions for mobile devices provider Discretix Ltd. to supply its CryptoCell product as a security platform for the Agere's digital baseband chipset solutions for mobile handsets. CryptoCell is an integrated device security platform, incorporating hardware, a rich security Middleware layer and Device Toolkits. Discretix Inc. also launched at the 3GSM World Congress a Windows Media Digital Rights Management 10-enabled client for smartphones and feature phones. Virus protection developer Commtouch has signed a licensing agreement with Intoto, a provider of network-centric, secure gateway software for networking and communications original equipment manufacturers. Commtouch's anti-spam and Zero-Hour Virus Protection technologies will be offered as an integrated module for Intoto's iGateway EX and RGS software platforms. Web applications provider Radware has introduced its DefensePro 3.0 software, the first solution in the market to provide self learning proactive protection against security attacks. The product automatically mitigates worms, malware, DoS, DDoS and SYN flood attacks in real time with a behavioral protection system. Radvision, a provider of multimedia conferencing and communications platforms, said that TD-SCDMA chipsets developer T3G Technology is licensing Radvision's 3G-324M toolkit to build reference designs for video-enabled mobile handsets. M-Systems announced a number of deals at the 3GSM World Congress. Atmel Corporation has agreed to produce and sell high-density SIM controllers, powered by M-Systems' MegaSIM platform, to SIM card vendors. M-Systems also said that together with Spansion Inc. it is developing products that integrate M-Systems' MegaSIM platform with Spansion's MirrorBit Orand flash memory technology. M-Systems also released a new M-Card memory card form factors for the mobile market. The availability of mobile memory cards completes the company's offering to the mobile market which includes M-DOC and M-SIM product lines. 3GSM World Congress, which is taking place from February 13 to 16 has 962 companies signed up as exhibitors, showcasing their latest mobile products, services and solutions - a 40% increase from last year. Some 50,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.
