TechWatch: Amdocs gets seven-year deal with AT&T

Company ranked 30 by IAOP annual ranking of the world's best outsourcing service providers.

Israeli-American company Amdocs Ltd. won a seven-year contract from AT&T Inc. for AT&T to use the company's programs and services in its order-taking and wholesale businesses starting this year. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Separately, the company said it was named by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) to its second annual ranking of the world's best outsourcing service providers - The Global Outsourcing 100. Amdocs was named to last year's inaugural list and significantly improved its ranking to 30, as compared to its previous ranking of 55. Lab One, an Israeli-based technology incubator, has closed a $3.5 million round of financing led by Migdal Capital Markets and Bear Stearns Asset Management Inc. Lab One was established to encourage the creation of new technology companies at the pre-seed stage - before the stages that are of venture capital funds interest. The incubator receives state funding up to 85% of the total investment in a new company while the other 15% comes from the incubator's own resources or external investors. The year 2006 was particularly successful for the local technology incubator sector as a 60% increase was recorded among companies that had received funding, for an aggregate total of over $250m. In honor of Independence Day, Jerusalem-based technology start-up Oleh Tech has launched SinaiMail, a new bulk e-mail service platform that takes advantage of the Internet's marketing potential to strengthen businesses and organizations by enabling customers to create professionally designed e-mails, mange e-mail campaigns and evaluate real-time effectiveness. SinaiMail requires no software installation on a computer, as its web-based tracking and reporting tool reveals the history of an e-mail. On Track Innovations Ltd., based in Rosh Pina, a global leader in contactless microprocessor-based smart card solutions for homeland security, payments, petroleum payments and other applications, said Kenya's Smart Applications International Ltd. (SMART), has placed an order for 100,000 cards that will be issued by multiple medical scheme managers. SMART has commissioned close to 200 SMART device points of service at hospitals, pharmacies and general practitioner sites across Kenya, enabling patient authentication, verification of benefits and claims processing in a seamless process. The Tel Aviv-based Sadna Internet branding agency has announced the release of a new concept through which it will be possible for anyone with a cellphone to create a direct connection between the phone and a personalized Internet site. "Voicemail" will allow cellphone users to create their own Web sites, on which they can place phone numbers, pictures, messages of the day or week as well as send or receive e-mails or SMS messages. For an example of a personalized Web site, go to Orad Hi-Tec Systems Ltd., a world leader in providing virtual studios and on-air graphics systems, will provide Rede Record, one of Brazil's largest broadcasters, with its Maestro news graphics system, multiple 3DPlay channel branding solutions and an additional virtual studio system. The deal is valued at $650,000 and will take effect this year. Rede Record chose to standardize with Kfar Saba-based Orad's three dimensional, on-air graphic solutions for their Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo broadcasting centers. Orad's Maestro news graphic system will integrate with ENPS's newsroom systems and Orad's 3DPlay channel branding solution will integrate to the Harris automation system. According to Commtouch's Spam Trends Report for the first quarter of 2007 released this week, spam continues unabated, based on real-time analysis of billions of messages globally. Commtouch, based in Netanya, reported that almost 90% of all e-mails sent are spam, with the top spam categories being sexual enhancers, followed by stock pump and dump scams. The Commtouch Detection Center analyzes billions of e-mail messages per month to identify new spam and malware outbreaks within minutes of their introduction into the Internet. Telkom SA Ltd., the provider of public switched communications services in South Africa, has selected Alvarion Ltd.'s BreezeMAX 3.5 GHZ to roll out WiMAX networks as part of an ongoing deployment project for increasing wireless broadband services on a nationwide level. Meanwhile, Alvarion, the world's leading provider of WiMAX and wireless broadband solutions, said Mobile WiMAX services based on Alvarion's 4Motion solution will be showcased at Intel's renowned Developer's Forum in Beijing. The two companies are also cooperating on WiMAX interoperability testing for mobile WiMAX with Alvarion's 16e-based radio access network. Eltek Ltd., the Petah Tikva-based manufacturer of advanced circuitry solutions, announced that a major US industrial manufacturer has placed a follow-on order for flex-rigid PCBs that will be used in the production of advanced industrial equipment. The order is valued at $770,000 and is expected to be supplied during this year's second and third quarters. Netanya-based Finjan, a leader in Web security products, announced the general availability of Finjan SecureBrowsing, an intuitive security assistance tool for end-users. Initially announced to the public at the RSA Conference in February, this free service has generated great interest among both enterprise and home users alike, and is currently being showcased at Infosecurity Europe 2007. Finjan SecureBrowsing proactively alerts users to potential malicious content hiding behind links of search results, online e-mail applications, ads and other popular Web sites. Finjan SecureBrowsing accesses each of the links in its current form on the Web, and scans the relevant pages in real-time. Each link is then marked with a safety rating - either safe (green) or potentially malicious (red). Safend, a global provider of information leak prevention solutions for enterprise endpoints, announced a distribution agreement with PC-Ware AG, a leading IT service provider centered in Dietikon, Switzerland. The agreement adds the Tel Aviv-based Safend's data protection products to PC-Ware AG's solution and service portfolio, making Safend's solutions available to PC-Ware AG's channel partners and customers. Safend Protector secures enterprise data residing on corporate PC's and laptops.
