Tech Watch: E-mail traffic at 171 billion messages per day

Global email traffic has grown to some 171 billion messages per day, of which 71 percent is spam, software company Zantaz reported Wednesday. Close to 67% of e-mails are being sent via email portals such as Yahoo, Gmail and the like, or via Internet providers, the company said. As a result of the continued acceleration of email traffic and the need for organizations to better organize their mail, Daniel Adari, CEO of Israeli company PI, Zantaz's representative in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, said he expects the digital archiving industry to grow revenues of $800 million this year, to $7.8b. in 2010. Expanding on its Internet services core-business, Bezeq International has applied for a fixed line telephone license from the Communications Ministry. The Bezeq subsidiary said in its request that local calling has become an essential part of the range of products offered by Internet providers in Israel. The company currently has an experimental marketing license to provide fixed line service using its voice over broadband (VoBB) technology. Alvarion the world's leading provider of wireless broadband solutions and specialized mobile networks, said six Chicago area communities have deployed a regional mobile broadband network using its BreezeACCESS 900 system to support fixed and mobile public safety applications, specifically to help crime and fire fighting efforts. Following the launch of its Voice Navigator system in Hebrew in July last year, cellular communications company Mirs has adapted the product to the English speaking market. The launch marks the first time Israeli drivers will be able to take directions in English from their global positioning system. Electronic monitoring technologies provider Dmatek Ltd. has received a $500,000 order from the Belgium Ministry of Justice. The order was placed with the company's Elmo-Tech subsidiary, which operates in the corrections and law enforcement markets, and whose equipment will be supplied to the Ministry by Belgium service provider Alert Services. Tel Aviv-based Elmo-Tech has been operating in Belgium since 2000 and last year was re-awarded the national tender until 2010. Tel Aviv-based Radcom Ltd. released its new monitoring and analysis tool for network infrastructures "R70 Probe" at the TeleManagement World conference in Nice, France this week. The company, which provides network test and monitoring solutions, said the new product is designed to assist regular telephone, cable and cellular operators to restructure their current networks to offer next-generation services. Portuguese telephone operator ONI is deploying Israeli ethernet provider Actelis Networks' equipment to enhance its electrical infrastructure. By using high-bandwidth ethernet provided by the Petah Tikva-based company over its copper communications equipment, ONI hopes to improve its performance in terms of bandwidth, range and reliability to subscribers. Ra'anana-based Emblaze-VCON, a subsidiary of the Emblaze Group, has signed a partnership agreement with video communications distributor Direct Visual to exclusively sell it video conferencing products in the UK.
