The distance between an abstract idea and an official working document has become significantly shorter today: Google announced a significant upgrade to the capabilities of Gemini, its artificial intelligence assistant, which allows users to generate files that can be downloaded and shared directly from the chat interface. The goal is clear: To eliminate the exhausting need to copy texts, paste them into external software and redesign them.

The current change allows turning a brainstorming session or an informal conversation into a finished file at the click of a button. If until now users were forced to perform manual manipulations on the information produced by artificial intelligence, now it is possible to ask the system to export a budget proposal directly to an Excel file (.xlsx), or to organize scattered ideas into an orderly draft in a Word (.docx) or PDF document.

Google’s move is intended to turn artificial intelligence into a truly productive work tool, and not just an advanced search engine. According to the company’s announcement, the update will allow consolidating long collaborations into a single organized page or a Markdown document, which makes the transition from the planning stage to the execution stage easier.

The list of supported formats is particularly broad and includes Google’s Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets and Slides), alongside universal formats such as PDF, CSV, TXT, and even LaTeX files for technical documents. The system will allow downloading the files directly to the device or exporting them directly to Google Drive. The update is now available to all users of the Gemini app worldwide, and all that remains is to explain to the chat what type of file you need.
