A Jewish member of British Parliament has resigned from the government amid allegations that he sent x-rated photos to an undercover reporter posing as a Tory party activist.
According to the report in The Sunday Mirror, Conservative MP for Braintree, Essex, Brooks Newmark, who is a married father of five, swapped explicit photos with the reporter, posing as a young Tory PR girl, and requested to meet her.
"Newmark initiated a private message conversation online and, during flirtatious chats and photo exchanges, sent a graphic snap exposing himself while wearing a pair of paisley pajamas," according to the report.
The reporter sent Newmark a sexually explicit photograph, prompting him to ask him to send her "a more explicit picture “without your hands in the way and legs parted”. He then said: “I will send you something in return – that way we each have a secret,” according to the Mirror.
Newmark had been in charge of British Prime Minister David Cameron's efforts to get more women into politics, having co-founded the campaign group Women2Win, the Mirror reported.
The reporter uncovered the story as part of an undercover probe into charges that some MPs were using social media to meet women.
Following news of the report, Newmark said he had decided "to resign as minister for civil society having been notified of a story to be published in a Sunday newspaper."
He added: "I would like to appeal for the privacy of my family to be respected at this time."
