Maj.-Gen. (res.) Yoav Galant, the former head of the IDF’s Southern Command – whose appointment as chief of General Staff was torpedoed earlier this year – will speak for the first time publicly next week at a conference at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan.
Galant’s talk will be at a conference marking the publication of the new book Israel vs. Iran: The Shadow War (Kinneret Zmora-Bitan) by Yaakov Katz, The Jerusalem Post’s military correspondent, and Yoaz Hendel, a columnist for Yediot Aharonot and Makor Rishon.

Other lecturers will include former ambassador to the UN Dr. Dore Gold, head of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, and Prof. Efraim Inbar, director of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Affairs.
The book tells the story of Israel’s ongoing covert war against Iran in the face of the Islamic Republic’s continued race towards nuclear power.
The book focuses on the period between the Second Lebanon War in 2006, and the present. It tells the story behind Israel’s 2007 strike against Syria’s nuclear reactor, the assassinations of Iranian scientists and Hezbollah and Hamas operatives, as well as Israel’s war against Iranian weapon smuggling throughout the region.
Galant’s lecture will be his first public appearance since the cabinet in February retracted its earlier decision to appoint him as IDF chief of General Staff, amid allegations that he seized land near his home in Moshav Amikam. Maj.- Gen. Benny Gantz, a former deputy chief of General Staff, was appointed in his place.
