Just hours after Israeli security services evacuated settlers from the Beit Hamachpela home in Hebron, Palestinians and left-wing activists were barred from moving into an abandoned home in the West Bank city.Late Wednesday, the group arrived at an abandoned home, claiming that they had rented the building legally and stated they had obtained proper documents from the Civil Administration.Settlers quickly confronted the group, after which IDF personnel arrived at the scene and evacuated the Palestinians and left-wing activists. There were no injuries as a result of the confrontation, according to the IDF Spokesman's Office. The settlement issue has taken center stage on the Israeli political scene in recent days. Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said that the issue threatened the stability of the coalition and called for decision-making power to be stripped from Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who handled the evacuation. The issue looks set to continue to cause rifts in Israeli political society, as PM Netanyahu is considering converting three outposts - Rehalim, Sansana and Bruchin, into settlements.
