Opposition leader Tzipi Livni (Kadima) called for the government to take action against Hamas following rocket explosions near Ashdod on Friday.
“Terror needs to be fought with force,” she said. “Hamas is not a partner for peace, and they are whom we need to fight.”

Livni added that “just as Kadima initiated actions against terrorists when we were in the government, we will now support actions that will defend the lives of Israel’s citizens.”
The Kadima leader also repeated her call for increased security measures near the southern border.
“The border with Egypt is no longer a border of peace,” Livni said. “Until today, we treated it like a border crossed by infiltrators seeking work – but it has become a border that those who want to kill us cross.”
Visiting victims of the Eilat terror attacks in Beersheba’s Soroka Hospital, Livni lauded “the beautiful side of Israel: amazing young people, soldiers who were injured and taken care of by a young medic who was on the bus, and a driver who made a correct, intuitive decision and saved lives.”
Also on Friday, Labor leadership candidate MK Isaac Herzog mourned the loss of party activist Dov Karlinsky, who was killed along with his wife and her sister and brother-in-law when terrorists opened fire on his car on Thursday.
“I, along with thousands of Labor party members from Kfar Saba, am shocked and pained by the tragic death of party member Dov Karlinsky,” Herzog stated. “I have known Dov for years, and had the privilege to work with him.”
Herzog said Karlinsky “loved peace, social justice, this country and its residents.”
Labor Party Secretary Hilik Bar said the party “is shocked by the murder, in cold blood, of Dov Karlinsky and three of his family members in the terror attack in the South.”
“His passing is a great loss for the party, its leaders, its members and Israeli society,” Bar added.
