My history (100 words max): I grew up in Chattanooga, TN - a town of 450,000 with only 1,300 Jews. After much moving around, I have wound up in Nashville, which with 1 million people and 8,500 Jews is a good sized community to live and raise a family. I married a JTS trained Eshet Chayil and we, and our 2 and 1 year old, enjoy our life here on the lake as involved members of our local and our Jewish communities
Family history (100 words max): My fathers parents both moved from Bialystock Poland in 1902. Coincidentally, my grandmother (Aged 9 months) and my grandfather (aged 3 years) were on the same ship, although their families did not know each other. We moved from New Jersey to Chattanooga when I was 9, and except for me, the whole family moved to Florida 10 years ago
My connection with Israel: For my Bar Mitzvah present from my family I asked for a trip to Israel. For my 16 year old teen tour, I took a ZOA trip to Israel. For my junior year abroad, I studied at Hebrew U and have been back a dozen times since. Israel is part of my heart and part of my soul
What I would take with me to a deserted island: All the books I still have on my 'to read' list
If I could have dinner with any person in the world it would be: My grandfather Leo. He fought in the Abraham Lincoln brigade where he met Hemmingway and was mentioned in For whom the Bell Tolls
What angers you: Missed opportunities
What makes you happy: When my son and daughter see each other for the first time each morning - the look on their faces is more joy than any adult can achieve
Last book I read was: The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama
Comfort food: Tuna Melt
My life five years from now: My wife, my 4 children and I happily playing on the lake, going to Shul, visiting Israel on vacation
You may not like it but I have something controversial to say: Only Nixon could go to China; only Netanyahu can make peace with the Palestinians
Happiness: 1-10 (10 being the happiest) 9
