TODAY'S HOT POTATO:Taken from article:Cabinet okays new conversion bodyTalkback #: 6 + 19
Talkbacker: Yitzhak and Nick Lees
Text: Yitzhak: Since these "non-Jews" were sufficiently Jewish to be persecuted 24 hours a day, generation after generation, in their former countries before they became Israelis, they must be accepted as Jews. Some flexibility must be shown as long as these people are sincere.
Nick: A mass conversion of 150,000 people will cheapen the hard work and dedication of observant converts. It's clear that these Russians have no intent of remaining observant post-mikveh, so the whole shpiel would be a joke. The ones who are serious and have a 'pintele yid' have overcome the "rigorous" obstacles, and the others are weeded out. Leave it as it is.
