A 35-year-old Jewish man was stabbed on Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Tuesday afternoon. The attacker reportedly shouted, “F*** these Jews,” and said that it would “be alright if the Holocaust happened today.”
According to WABC, the New York Police Department is investigating the stabbing that occurred after a verbal argument between two men.
According to authorities, the incident began as a seemingly random verbal confrontation. The suspect walked away from the initial argument, and the victim, a 35-year-old man, followed him down the block, where another argument took place and turned physical.
Police said the suspect then pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the victim in the chest. The victim continued to follow the suspect across the street and down another block.
Officials said the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released from Kings County Hospital.
Possible antisemitic attack
The NYPD is reportedly investigating the incident as a possible antisemitic attack. Police have released photos of the suspect and deployed dozens of additional officers to the Crown Heights area as the search continues.
The stabbing took place just around the block from the Chabad Headquarters in Brooklyn, which has reportedly tightened up security measures since the Bondi Beach massacre this week.
Outgoing NYC Mayor Eric Adams condemned the stabbing, offered prayers for the victim and his family, and said the NYPD Hate Crimes Division is investigating the incident.
“Evil, hateful, antisemitic violence must come to an end. We cannot let this hate persist in our city, and we will never back down.
“We are praying for this man and his family, and the NYPD Hate Crimes Division is investigating this incident as we speak.”
Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Danny Danon, shared the video of the incident on X/Twitter and pressed for leaders to do more about antisemitism.
“Enough is enough. Attacks on Jews for being Jewish are intolerable. Silence in the face of hate is an abomination.”
