Gad Shirlin's Paz station in Ma'ale Adumim became the first solar-powered gas station in Israel on Sunday. SolarPower Israel Ltd. erected an 18KW solar photovoltaic (PV) panel plant on the roof of the station. It will power 50 percent of the station's energy needs, have an investment return of over 10%, and the rest of the electricity will be sold back to the grid. The system will be hooked up to the grid in the coming weeks.
