ELA officials clarified what can and cannot be thrown into the recycling receptacles. Any plastic bottle with a cap can be placed in the receptacle. So, any personal hygiene bottle, shampoo container or water or soda bottle – big or small – can be recycled. What can’t be recycled through the receptacles are plastic packaging that are not bottles. So plastic packaging – trays, yogurt or spread containers, for instance – cannot be stuffed into the receptacles. Those types of packages will have to wait to be recycled for the approval of the Packaging Law which is wending its way through legislative channels this year.According to ELA officials, the bottles are recycled into items such as pens, chairs, hangers and fruit containers in the supermarket, and quite a lot are used in the textile industry to produce items such as fleece and other fabrics.
