United States Special Envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Muscat, Oman, on Thursday evening ahead of US-Iran talks, according to Israeli state broadcaster KAN News.
The talks are scheduled to take place on Friday morning and will reportedly focus on Iran's nuclear program, its ballistic missile program, and its use of proxy terror groups, according to a New York Times report earlier on Thursday.
Talks temporarily cancelled, then relocated
The talks were originally scheduled to take place in Turkey, but Iran requested a venue change and an exclusive focus on the nuclear program, prompting the US delegation to temporarily call off the meeting.
The NYT report, citing three Iranian officials and one Arab official, stated that "everyone had given an inch" in compromises to reschedule the talks.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the talks were back on in a post on X/Twitter on Wednesday, in which he clarified that they will begin at 10a.m. Muscat time.
Araghchi additionally thanked Omani officials for making the arrangements necessary to hold the talks in the new venue.
Witkoff's Israel visit
On Tuesday, Witkoff met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel to discuss de-escalating tensions between the US and Iran.
During the meeting, Netanyahu told Witkoff that "Iran has repeatedly proven it cannot be trusted to keep its commitments," according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office.
