Government leaders and security chiefs from six Asia-Pacific nations will gather Monday to discuss ways to better fight terrorism and an apparent rise in Muslim extremism in the region, officials said on Sunday morning.
Participants from Indonesia, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore - nations seen as especially vulnerable to terrorist attacks - will also stress the importance of making sure militants do not acquire unconventional weapons.
Indonesia's Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said that by sharing experiences and expertise, and by seeking common strategies and responses, countries in the area "will certainly be much better prepared to meet the ever-increasing threats and acts of terrorism."
