Austria: Police probe of package bomb leads to SMS

Police investigating a possible package bomb left outside the headquarters of an Islamic youth organization are looking into a cell phone text message with a cryptic reference to Nazism, Austrian media reported Wednesday. State broadcaster ORF said authorities probing the circumstances surrounding the parcel, which was left in front of the Vienna building that houses the Muslim Youth of Austria on Monday, were examining an SMS sent between two mobile phones that read: "4 July 1926, Weimar." A note tied to the package bore the same date, which coincides with the first parliamentary meeting of the Nazi Party and the official renaming of its own youth movement to the Hitler Youth, ORF and the Austria Press Agency reported. Werner Autericky, a high-ranking Vienna police official, told The Associated Press only that investigators were following several leads. He declined to elaborate. A police bomb squad blew up the package, which authorities said contained wires and gas canisters.
