British marine dies after Afghan road crash

A British Royal Marine died Thursday from injuries sustained in a road accident in Afghanistan earlier this month, the Defence Ministry said. The marine was injured in an accident while driving an all-terrain vehicle as part of a routine convoy in Helmand province on Feb. 4. He was treated in Afghanistan then transported to Britain for treatment. The ministry said the marine's family asked that his name not be immediately released. A total of 48 British forces personnel have died since operations began in Afghanistan in November 2001.
