British police arrest terror suspects

Police in Britain have arrested a 21-year-old man as a terrorist suspect and were conducting searches at three locations, authorities said Wednesday. The man, who was identified only as a resident of Bradford, England, was arrested Tuesday night at Manchester airport, West Yorkshire Police said. Also Wednesday, a man wanted in the United States on a charge of receiving military gear for terrorist purposes faces a court appearance in London. Syed Hashmi, 26, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Extradition Unit Tuesday night at Heathrow airport. A US extradition warrant alleges that between Jan. 1, 2004 and March 1, 2004 he received property intending that it be used for terrorism. He was indicted last month by a US grand jury in the southern district of New York, police said. His nationality was not immediately available.
