Bus crash in central Brazil kills 13, injures 23

A bus passing a vehicle in a mountainous region of central Brazil crashed head-on into an oncoming truck, killing 13 people and injuring 23, police said Saturday. The accident happened late Friday near the historic city of Ouro Preto, about 800 kilometers (500 miles) northeast of Sao Paulo. Authorities were still trying to identify some of the victims, said a state highway police officer who would not give his name because of department policy. The bus had departed earlier from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state. The survivors were taken to hospitals, suffering from injuries ranging from light to serious, the officer said. The cause of the crash appeared to be driver error by the bus driver, he said
