EU calls Israeli Gaza strike 'profoundly shocking'

The European Union's executive office said an Israeli tank strike that killed 18 Palestinians in Gaza was "a profoundly shocking event." Israeli shells struck a residential neighborhood in the northern Gaza Strip early Wednesday, killing at least 18 members of an extended family. The victims included 10 children. "The killing this morning of so many civilians in Gaza, including many children, is a profoundly shocking event," said EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner.
