An explosion late Friday in a pig slaughterhouse in an eastern Indonesian province that has been plagued by sectarian violence killed at least three people, witnesses and police said. All of the victims were believed to be Christians.
"The explosion was so loud, I couldn't hear for a couple of seconds," said Tega, who lives nearby in Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi province. "I ran out of my house and saw bodies lying around."
Police said it was too early to say whether the attacks were linked to the simmering sectarian conflict in the Indonesian province, where open battles between Muslims and Christians killed about 1,000 people in 2001 and 2002.
"We need some time to confirm the details," said national police spokesman Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul.
