France may send only 200 troops to int'l force

The UN revealed suspicions that France would only send a symbolic number of troops to join the international force in south Lebanon, Army Radio reported Thursday morning. The country first announced it would send thousands of soldiers and had hinted that they would play a key role in leading the international force; now France plans on sending a mere 200 troops to the Middle East. Secretary of State Kofi Annan planned to meet with French president Jacques Chirac to discuss the issue in an attempt to persuade him to boost French participation.
