French students, buoyed by President Jacques Chirac's sudden cave-in on a youth employment measure, vowed to hold protests Tuesday to try to get rid of other government measures.
Unions declared victory on Monday after Chirac dumped the measure that had spurred nationwide unrest, paralyzed high schools and universities and discredited the government.
Energized students decided to go ahead with the day of action to consign other measures to the garbage heap.
In an announcement that amounted to a humiliating admission of defeat, Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin said on nationwide TV that the contested measure would be replaced.
