The German government urged Teheran on Wednesday to indicate to the European Union whether it would accept a package of incentives drawn up in an effort to defuse the standoff over Iran's nuclear program.
"We hope to find out whether Iran is prepared to accept the offer," German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger told a regular news conference.
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana had been scheduled to meet with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani on Wednesday, but the meeting was postponed until Thursday evening.
Jaeger said Teheran had given no indication why the meeting was postponed, but downplayed the importance of the decision to push it back a day.
"I think that what is important is that this meeting takes place," Jaeger said.
There was no immediate explanation as to what had caused the delay over the crucial round of talks on the package put forward by the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.
