Indian foreign minister stable after car accident

India's foreign minister was hospitalized after a truck slammed into his car in eastern India, but has been declared out of danger, officials and a report said Sunday. "I am well, but doctors have advised me 48 hours' rest. I hope to be back to work after that period," said the minister, Pranab Mukherjee, a longtime stalwart of India's ruling Congress Party, according to Press Trust of India. The accident occurred late Saturday as Mukherjee was traveling back from his parliamentary constituency of Jangipur, north of the eastern city of Calcutta, said Raj Kanojia, a senior police official in the area. The truck driver had apparently lost control when a tire burst as Mukherjee's convoy passed in the opposite lane, Kanojia said.
