Japan's chief nuclear envoy Kenichiro Sasae will visit China on Sunday for talks about North Korea, the Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
During his three-day trip to Beijing, Sasae will exchange views on North Korea with Chinese diplomatic officials, the ministry said in a statement. It gave no other details, adding officials are arranging meetings.
Sasae's trip comes as Christopher Hill, US chief negotiator for North Korean nuclear disarmament talks, is to return to Beijing on Sunday, following his trip to the Chinese capital earlier this week.
Sasae is expected to meet with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei Sunday, and a meeting between China, Japan and the U.S. is expected Monday, Kyodo News agency reported, citing unnamed Japanese officials.
China has requested that North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan visit Beijing on Tuesday, making it possible that all of the four delegates meet, Kyodo said.
