Lebanon: Turkey extends stay of troops by 1 year

Turkish forces in Lebanon will remain there for another year after Parliament decided Tuesday to extend their mission. Turkey has more around 1,000 troops, most of them sailors, in the force. More than 260 soldiers and civilian engineers serve on the ground as part of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon. The government said the mandate of the UN mission was expected to be extended and asked Parliament to extend the stay of the Turkish forces - which would have expired in September - to enable their uninterrupted participation in the new mission.
