Militant fire has killed a NATO soldier in eastern Afghanistan where US troops operate. NATO said in a statement that the soldier was killed Wednesday by "enemy fire." It released no other details. Most of the troops that operate in eastern Afghanistan are American, but NATO refuses to release the nationalities of soldiers killed in Afghanistan or any other details surrounding their deaths. This year has been the deadliest for US troops in Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion. Violence has spiked sharply over the last two years, and the US is poised to deploy up to 30,000 additional troops into the country on top of the 32,000 it already has here.
