A US citizen was charged with joining al-Qaida and conspiring to bomb tourist resorts in Europe and US government facilities and military bases there, according to a federal indictment.
Christopher Paul, 43, of Columbus, trained with al-Qaida in the early 1990s overseas and told al-Qaida members in Pakistan and Afghanistan that he was dedicated to committing violent jihad, the indictment issued Wednesday by a federal grand jury said.
Paul is charged with providing material support to terrorists, conspiracy to provide support to terrorists and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction.
Federal prosecutors planned to hold a briefing later Thursday morning.
