Pakistani security forces clashed with suspected Islamic insurgents in a tribal region bordering Afghanistan on Monday, killing three fighters, the army said.
The fighting broke out before dawn after gunmen launched attacks on two security posts in South Waziristan, army spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad said.
"Security forces retaliated very aggressively" for the small arms attacks near Wana, the region's main town, killing three attackers, Arshad said.
The fighting died down after about two hours and troops suffered no injuries, he said.
